Continuing our salute to Brent Hinds in light of his tragic passing last week, for today’s Tuesday’s Gone, we’re spotlighting this awesome performance of “The Motherload” live from 2014. Contrasting with yesterday’s Manic Monday selection from a decade prior, by the time 2014 rolled around, Mastodon had long since been a household name in the metal community, but as evidenced by this appearance on Letterman, they were reaching new heights in terms of popularity and influence. The entire band is naturally in fine form here, but Hinds can’t help but steal the show thanks to his cowbell count-off to kick things off, hilarious Bob Ross-esq attire, and not to mention an absolutely killer guitar solo a little more than halfway through the performance.
