As mentioned on yesterday’s Manic Monday, the late great Frank Zappa was no doubt a man of many talents, but perhaps chief among them all was his remarkable intellect. Which of course is really saying something, considering his insanely creative, prolific, and trailblazing contributions to the world of music over the years. That said, there’s a segment of his fanbase out there (which includes yours truly) who actually enjoy the distinctly irreverent, often amusing, and always thought-provoking nature of his interviews over the years nearly as much (if not more) than his music itself! Zappa’s distinctly sardonic and articulate commentary on everything from societal ills, the music industry, politics, and human nature rival that of the late great George Carlin from a philosophical perspective, given the pervasive misanthropic/nihilistic flavor of it all (Frank would have been a great stand-up)! There are many examples of that out there, but this collection of various clips from him over the years does a nice job of packaging up some compelling moments and perspectives (some of which were outright prophetic). Further evidence that Zappa’s genius what not just limited to the world of music. Dig it:
