Also a skilled improviser, his immersion in the world of contemporary music adds an unpredictable, dynamic edge to his songwriting. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Contemporary Musical Arts at New England Conservatory, where he has worked with esteemed musicians like Anthony Coleman and Joe Morris. He has premiered new works by legendary composer Christian Wolff.
“Westlands” is the latest single from Shane, magnificently highlighting the psychedelic nuances and refreshing approach the artist is bringing to the genre. In an era where everyone with something to say and an acoustic guitar throws their hat into the folk circuit, “Westlands” quickly separates Shane from his peers with an undeniable individuality that comes off as relaxed and whimsical on the artist’s new single. The virtuoso employs his trusty harp to add a cinematic flair to the psych-folk undertones that are evoked by the song’s warping structure and Shane’s hypnotic vocals. Miraculously, the artist’s lofty visions are contained in a digestible, welcoming approach. “Westlands” effortlessly soars into your soul thanks to the authenticity Shane brings to the table. Underneath the gentle prowess, Shane pens a poem of complex emotions that balance a relatable vagueness with what feels deeply personal truths, as if Shane needed the lyrics of “Westlands” to anchor the rest of the tune to reality. With a new album on the way, Shane established a sound he can call his own on the immersive “Westlands.”
