David Byrne is the type of artist we should all be grateful to witness, and we should all be even more thankful that the legendary lead still has the passion and creativity to continue gracing us with new ideas. Byrne turned 73 this year and celebrated with the release of Who Is The Sky?, a collaborative album with the Ghost Train Orchestra that acts as yet another exhilarating chapter in the artist’s timeless discography. As Byrne’s sonic legacy continues to grow, the veteran multi-hyphenate looks to bring that legacy to life on the Who Is The Sky? Tour, which kicked off at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

For the first stop in his extensive world tour, which features dates into 2026, Byrne put together a career-defining setlist that touches on his innovations with the Talking Heads to his colorful solo material. Pittsburgh was gifted with a 21-song setlist that features plenty of cuts from Byrne’s recently released LP. More than anything, though, Byrne focused on Talking Heads’ classics. The fearless frontman pulled out hits like “Psycho Killer,” a tune the artist hasn’t performed since 2006, “And She Was,” and “Once In a Lifetime.” Byrne also performed “Strange Overtones” from his 2008 collaborative album with Brian Eno.

Byrne also gladly dove deep into his solo catalog for the first stop of the Who Is The Sky? Tour. He pulled out classics like “Independence Day” from his 1989 album Rei Momo, which hadn’t been performed since 1992, “Everybody’s Coming To My House,” and “Like Humans Do.” Byrne also performed his cover of Paramore’s “Hard Times” for the first time. He also added some songs from his most recent release, performing “Everybody Laughs,” “My Apartment Is My Friend,” and “Don’t Be Like That” from Who Is The Sky?

Byrne has a long road ahead of him on his Who Is The Sky? Tour. The artist will wrap up the year traversing North America with stops in New York, Atlanta, Denver, and Los Angeles. The European leg of Byrne’s trek kicks off in January and will feature shows in Australia, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
