Rounding out our tribute to the late great Marc Bolan, for today’s Weirdo Wednesday, we’re keeping the spotlight on his peculiarly psychedelic pre-glam days with Steve Cook when his band was officially titled “Tyrannosaurus Rex”. In this super rare footage, we find Bolan and Took delivering a stripped-down performance of “Pewter Suitor” on the street in Paris from 1969. The psychedelic chanting on display here is inherently odd for sure, but perhaps the weirdest thing about this is to consider that he’s the same guy who would soon become one of the biggest stars on the planet with a huge glam-rock sound only a couple of years later. Indeed, quite a revolution in style and volume was on the horizon for Mr. Bolan, which only makes this performance all the more remarkable. Dig it:
