LISTEN: Waldo Witt Combines Warm Familiarity With Warping Psychedelia On “My Corner Of The World”

Waldo Witt’s musical evolution is as expansive as the geography he’s covered. His 2019 debut EP, Randall, introduced listeners to his dreamy bedroom pop sensibilities, followed by the introspective Inner Paths. But it was his 2022 full-length album, Long Daze, Dark Nights, that marked a significant shift. Trading electronic beats for lush, phased-out guitar riffs and ethereal vocal harmonies, Waldo drew comparisons to the early works of King Crimson and the harmony-rich records of Friends-era Beach Boys.

Witt’s music maintains a welcoming lo-fi warmth while containing a multitude of worldly advice and psychedelic colors, and “My Corner of the World” is no different. The latest from Witt is an ode to simplicity, and the joy that comes once it is found, even if it means struggling through the complexity of life to achieve it. After traveling for years, Witt has found a sense of home, and he embodies that feeling in a relaxed, celebratory, hazy single. “My Corner of the World” features a lush vocal performance that cascades around jangly textures and bright psychedelia, blanketing the performance in candlelight-like gentleness. Witt’s new single delivers a slice of home while simultaneously highlighting the intricacies of the artist’s approach.

“I’ve lived in a lot of different places, but never somewhere as friendly as Lincoln Heights. I love this neighborhood and its community so much,” explains Witt. “‘My Corner of the World’ is dedicated to the people of Lincoln Heights: the fruit stand vendors, the shopkeepers, the tattoo artists, and the florists.”
