bigfish makes big, fishy rock in Los Angeles, CA. Lead songwriters Christian Lising and Xavier Siazon started as rival guitarists in their hometown of Manila before becoming close friends and collaborators in college. bigfish is known for its infectious energy, vivid lyricism, and eclectic alternative rock sound. “I Can’t Sing (Without You)” is the second single from their sophomore EP, Over and Over and Over… Again, which drops on Halloween.
The latest preview of bigfish’s upcoming EP is an unassuming, lo-fi indie rock tune with swinging melodies and magical guitar work that properly introduces the band’s intricate individuality. “I Can’t Sing (Without You)” recontextualizes longing to find beauty in the pain of missing something, but this is far from a downtrodden tale of heartbreak. The band crafts a world of color and energy for the listener to get lost in, wrapping it in a blanket of fuzzy textures that softens the jagged guitar work and lessens the harshness of the lyrically explored realities. “I Can’t Sing (Without You)” is an unforgettable preview of an anticipated EP from a refreshing band inching closer to a sonic terrain they can call their own.
“‘I Can’t Sing’ was one of those songs where you had to keep going back to it again and again before it finally made sense. We probably rewrote it 5 times, went through production a bunch, and asked three mixers before we came out with something we liked, but we really love this song,” explains the band when asked about their new single.
