Quixote emerged in 2007 from late-night recording sessions and shared obsessions with sound. Their self-titled 2009 debut blurred lines between indie, folk, emo, psychedelia, and chamber pop, marrying organic instrumentation with cinematic dynamics. Founding members Joe Stulpin (vocals, guitar) and Evan Murphy (drums) join Justin Demers (previously bass, now lead guitar) to deliver a fermented reincarnation that stays true to form.
The return of Quixote is marked by the release of “Bioluminescent Eyes,” a psych-rock ballad of cinematic proportions. The band’s latest single is a stunning slice of rock with heady guitar work that stumbles behind soaring vocals and crashing drum patterns, creating an immersive single that beautifully details the singularity of Quixote. The band employs a vague yet potent lyrical approach that paints vibrant imagery, which is emphasized by the colorful instrumentation, separating the band from a burgeoning indie rock scene through raw poetics and palpable unpredictability. While “Bioluminescent Eyes” is driven by its psychedelic guitars, Stulpin’s soulful vocals add a fusion element, allowing the nuances of Quixote to unfold palpably. Quixote is back, and their triumphant return single is just the start of this new era for the veteran band.
“I wrote ‘Bioluminescent Eyes’ back in 2010, shortly after Quixote released our self-titled debut album. The band was alive with energy, albeit bursting at the seams… As we drifted apart in different directions, the entire project was shelved, but I could never get this song out of my head,” explains Stulpin. “Fifteen years later, we decided to bring our evolving perspectives back together to finally capture the song. Quietly and loudly, we’re closing the loop on the past and opening the doors to whatever comes next.”
