Mr. Dreem is comprised of brothers Austin and Aaron Peacock, bassist/keyboardist Josh Shinn, and drummer/kick drum kicker Matt Charter (Char Char). Drawing inspiration from Tame Impala, Phoenix, and Radiohead, the band writes sonic melodies that span multiple genres and aims to prove that the guitar solo might not be dead. The band formed in 2017 and released their Rotary View album on November 10.
“High Rock” is a single and an early favorite from Mr. Dreem’s fresh LP, and introduces the gentle glow that radiates from everything this band touches. The band has an intricate way of balancing the dark with the light, as “High Rock” delicately touches on the past without succumbing to the dread of knowing those memories are no longer present. With a soulful undertone that elevates their pop melodies to soaring heights and a breezy disposition in the arrangement, “High Rock” playfully dances through nostalgia with undeniable flair. There is an inherent warmth to this performance that tends to shadow the rawness in the lyrics, but Mr. Dreem is poetically detailing fond memories and asking deep questions. “High Rock” asks why it feels like only the good things change, and they do so in an infectious manner. Mr. Dreem’s new album is available everywhere, and “High Rock” only scratches the surface of the nuanced rock fusion that makes Rotary View such a memorable listen.
