Rounding-out our homage to Ministry’s underground 80s days, for today’s Weirdo Wednesday, we’re going all the way back to their very infancy as a band when they first hit the new-wave scene in 1983. In this remarkable video for “Revenge”, we get a lot of (somewhat amusing) close-up shots of a baby-faced Al Jourgensen singing in a faux-British accent and Ministry effectively in full-on synth-pop mode, baring very little (if any) resemblance (aurally or aesthetically) to the industrial-metal titans they would eventually become. Depending on your perspective, you could argue Al’s image technically became more eccentric and extreme in subsequent years, but there’s something inherently weird about soaking-in early-80s synth-pop Jorgensen in all his new-wave glory.
