The idea of a contemporary troubadour seems far-fetched, given that everyone records and posts every last waking moment to a social media page. Maintaining an air of mystique becomes increasingly complex in modern times, especially when you’re one of the hardest-working, most well-traveled musicians of your era. For Scott Kinnebrew, the centerpiece of his solo project Sounding Arrow and a member of Truth and Salvage Co., he has seemingly found a balance between a rambling man and a critic’s darling.

From sharing the stage with The Black Crowes and The Avett Brothers to now redirecting his focus on Sounding Arrow, Kinnebrew is a man who knows how to stay busy. His first LP under his solo moniker, SKYMAN, is set to be released on April 10, marking the first Sounding Arrow album since 2017.

Today, Glide is proud to premiere “Zero Gravity,” the video for the latest single from Kinnebrew’s anticipated new LP. The psychedelic journey of a single is accompanied by a video directed by Doug Frerichs that depicts the otherworldly atmosphere created by the musician’s soaring vocals and spacious instrumentation

“Well, I must confess that I’ve had this song in the quiver for a while now, for 10 years, actually,” explains Kinnebrew when asked about the inspiration behind the composition.” “The song is about a townie, a regular old Joe, who was selected (“I got cast in a brand-new series”) to be a spaceman on a reality TV show. He speaks of how he will deeply miss Earth, but he was chosen to be a spaceman, and a spaceman he must be. I cheapened the auditions to be for a TV show instead of NASA.”

That surreality is depicted potently and beautifully throughout “Zero Gravity.” The weightlessness of the vocals, the way their melodies cascade around jangly tones, almost as if the performance is looking for a place of its own. Kinnebrew’s veteran songwriting style unfurls into an immersive storytelling tune that should have everyone running to hear the rest of SKYMAN this April.
