Tuareg pioneers and Grammy-winning collective Tinariwen have announced their tenth studio album, Hoggar, due March 13 via the band’s own Wedge label. More than 45 years into their remarkable run, the group turns inward, reconnecting with the elemental sounds that first defined their music. Long recognized as vital voices for Tuareg nomadic culture across the desert borderlands of Mali and Algeria, Tinariwen’s hypnotic, guitar-driven blues has earned worldwide reverence for its fusion of Tamasheq-language resistance, propulsive rhythms, and expansive melodies. With Hoggar, the band embraces its role as elder statesmen, revisiting early songwriting traditions rooted in acoustic guitars and communal desert gatherings, while welcoming a younger generation of collaborators poised to carry forward the music’s enduring spirit of resilience and defiance.

In support of Hoggar, Tinariwen have confirmed a worldwide tour set to launch next month in India. North American dates, however, will not be part of the run. In a statement, the band noted that current travel bans made U.S. and Canadian performances impossible despite extensive efforts behind the scenes, adding that they look forward to returning as soon as circumstances allow. All confirmed tour dates are listed below.

Long associated with recordings shaped by the winds and isolation of the Central Saharan desert, Tinariwen have consistently drawn creative strength from their surroundings. With ongoing political instability in Mali limiting their ability to work there, founding members now based in Algeria recorded Hoggar in Tamanrasset, using a studio built by next-generation Tuareg group Imarhan. The location underscores the band’s enduring commitment to adaptability, collaboration, and continuity within their musical community.
