Mo Klé is the musical pseudonym of Swiss songwriter René Grünenfelder. His musical journey began early: as a teenager, he founded a punk band and subsequently spent about 10 years touring with NOFNOG. This period, shaped by concerts, travel, and intense stage experiences, continues to influence his approach to music to this day. After the punk chapter, Grünenfelder increasingly turned towards singer-songwriter music, sharpening his sense for song structures, atmosphere, and narrative lyrics. Since 2018, he has been writing and releasing music under the moniker Mo Klé. His first EP, Fighter in the Sky, was released in 2019, followed by his debut album, Parallel Worlds (2021). Further releases came with the EPs Tales From A Garage (2022) and Songs From the Attic (2024), both of which he recorded and produced himself in a DIY manner.
His second album, Three Chords and a Shaking Hand, is announced for 2026. Moving between indie, singer-songwriter, folk, and Americana, it was produced by Winterthur-based musician Giuliano Sulzberger. Guitars, bass, and drums form the foundation, complemented by lap steel guitar, piano, organ, synthesizers, and backing vocals. The songs address personal and everyday themes—such as dealing with one’s own weaknesses, the search for inner peace, or a longing for times gone by—or comment on social observations in a calm, understated way.
With a sophomore effort on the way, Klé prepares fans with a pop-tinted folk anthem. “King of Mediocrity” is a cheeky, infectious single that toys with self-deprecation through playful melodies, keeping the dark undertones of the lyrics tucked beneath punchy acoustics. Klé creates a whimsical world in which underachievement is the norm, but there is a hint of heartbreak in this sonic universe. The artist, rather than wallow in self-pity, seems to thrive with a lack of expectations, although, ironically enough, “King of Mediocrity” sets the expectations for Three Chords and a Shaking Hand high. Klé created a folksy anthem built around immersive simplicity, featuring bubbly percussion that complements the jangly guitar riffs with unassuming yet potent flair. Klé seems to be on the verge of a breakthrough with “King of Mediocrity,” an unforgettable lead single to a highly anticipated LP.
