FAITH PLATES is an artist based in Berlin. Born in Germany to Romanian-Hungarian immigrant parents and raised in South Carolina, China, Germany, and the UK, she draws on nostalgia for early-2000s America. Heavily influenced by traditional folk and country, she draws on diverse musical traditions and cultures, so the music does not belong to a single genre.
“Salt Circles” is the first single of her upcoming debut album PATTERN RECOGNITION to be released this spring, and was recorded in a Neukölln living room with Manchester-born, Berlin-based producer and artist Sable.
PLATES is letting her presence be felt on her undeniable debut single. “Salt Circles” introduces us to a poetic, empathetic songwriter unafraid of pushing the boundaries of contemporary folk into more ethereal, electronic atmospheres. Sure, folktronica is not a new recipe, but even a sure-fire dish can be life-changing when placed into the correct hands. PLATES deftly spins tropes into refreshing, ethereal soundscapes, allowing the tension to build beneath her cascading vocals. What starts as a meditative ballad evolves into a fresh take on electronic folk, encouraging patience and healthy vulnerability. PLATES is just getting started on her journey, and “Salt Circles” is a beautifully crafted welcome to those who want to join her on the trip to her debut album.
“‘Salt Circles’ feels like it encapsulates possibly every emotion I’ve ever felt and is about a million things, but was inspired most heavily by a deep longing for a sense of carelessness and lightness I saw in other people, and the way that they existed that I felt was (and sometimes still is) unattainable for myself,” explains PLATES. “Writing and releasing it feels like releasing that same feeling of frustration in some way.”
