LISTEN: Hockitay’s “over/over” Is Meditativte Indie Rock With Electronic Flourishes

Guatemalan-born, Montreal-based artist Hockitay returns today with “over/over,” his first release of 2026. The single arrives after a busy 2025, which saw the release of select singles and the slo mach EP. Hockitay’s journey began in 2022 with the release of “Blood and Light,” a debut single that introduced the artist’s distinct brand of electronic indie rock, tinged with soulful pop flourishes. That sound evolved on the quick yet potent A Smile for Comfort, a more ambient outing that also served as a glimpse into Hockitay’s indie rock tendencies.

The artist now looks to the future on “over/over,” the first preview of his currently unnamed upcoming EP, set to arrive in 2026. The slow-burning single takes the isolation that comes with dissociation and spins it into dramatic electronic swells. The ambient opening of the song is simply captivating, pulling the listener in with hauntingly beautiful vocals that soar over crackling electronics and a palpable bass. The downtrodden lyrics find Hockitay seemingly giving up on attempting to understand the world, but this is not the moment the artist gives up on the world. “over/over” carries with it a subtle sense of relief, like the weight of attempting to change things out of your control is being lifted off of your chest, and you can finally breathe again. Hockitay’s latest single is a proper continuation of a sound that becomes more intricate with every release, hinting at something special coming on the artist’s forthcoming EP.
