Formed in Louisville, KY in 2017, Drift City spans psychedelic terrain with eclectic elements of pop, soul, and rock. Consisting of core member Jason Rivers (guitar, vocals, synth), and rotating personnel including Dave Givan (Jim James, Ray LaMontagne), Billy Lease (Tyler Lance Walker Gill), and Woody Woodmansee (Hawks), Drift City released their second LP Deep Reverse, which was mixed by Erik Wofford (The Black Angels, Explosions in the Sky, Black Pumas, Bill Callahan) and mastered by Kevin Ratterman (Brian Wilson, Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket). Sky Unconscious followed in 2024, inciting a similar cast of musicians during its inception.

“The Seeds” is a hazy, atmospheric highlight from Drift City’s new EP, Spectral Heart Mosaics. This is the type of performance that reaches the soul and sticks to the ribs, a wholeheartedly passionate effort with intricate singularity. Rivers’s vocals howl like a gust of wind through a dense forest, as the psychedelic guitars paint figures that dance in the breeze. To say “The Seeds” is immersive would be an understatement. For the amount of moving parts that make up this stunning song, they move as one blissful being, reaching a hand out to the listener and inviting them into this whimsical world. “The Seeds” only scratches the surface of the magic contained on Spectral Heart Mosaics, but it is a proper introduction to Drift City and their world-building approach to contemporary soul fusion.
