LISTEN: Rude Films Tackle Complex Emotions Via Heavy Shoegaze On “Through the Light”

Straddling the boundary between discordance and serenity, Rude Films contrast light and dark to craft alt-rock that is foreboding yet hopeful. Since 2018, they’ve occupied the dank mills of Manchester, heavily inspired by their precursors but determined to carve out their own sound. With a shared love of guitar pedals, they blend elements of shoegaze, post-punk, and industrial to create songs as immersive as they are intense. Following the release of their self-titled debut album earlier this year, the final weeks of 2025 see them release a double-A-side 7-inch vinyl, featuring the tracks “Through the Light” and “Horseshoe”.

“Through the Light” is a heavy, emotional highlight from a productive year for Rude Films. The new single begins to paint a portrait of Rude Films, a daring band pushing hard against convention, maintaining an inviting atmosphere through raw vulnerability. “Through the Light” carries you through lush shoegaze vocals that bleed over hard-hitting drums and soaring guitar work, combining for an atmospheric tune that might be the most palpable release in Rude Films’s 2025. Lyrically, the band pleads for a sense of self, or at least for someone to sit with them throughout the rugged journey of self-analysis. These complex emotions manifest on the dramatic swells of “Through the Light,” a heartfelt piece of shoegaze excellence that only scratches the surface of what Rude Films has to offer.

“‘Through the Light’ is a brooding track about feeling uncomfortable in your own skin and the search for an escape. It was recorded in May 2025 at the renowned 80 Hertz studio, Manchester, UK,” explains the band.
