Burgeoning Dutch alt-rockers GUNMOLL enchant their striking brand of rock with the temptation, danger, and magnetism of the most blood-curdling crime novels. The band, featuring Jolien Grunberg (vocals/guitar), Bram Bol (guitar/production), Koen van Bemmelen (bass), and Pim de Roij (drums), paints stories of romance, betrayal, surging adrenaline, and anthemic tension, partly anchored in Jolien’s Romanian roots. As the first sketches of GUNMOLL’s neo noir-tinged rock started to manifest, Jolien contacted Bram, with whom she had already developed a good connection in a previous project. Their established chemistry bursts at the seams as Bram and Jolien flesh out their first songs as GUNMOLL.
GUNMOLL is doing a bit more than crafting infectious indie rock; they’re looking to reshape your idea of the genre. Their new single, the anthemic and groovy “Fuck Everything Up,” is an unforgettable listen brimming with sleek melodies that paint vivid imagery over subtle, jangly tones. On the surface, GUNMOLL is looking to make you dance. The way the soaring verses bleed into the chanting chorus, the otherworldly guitar riffs, and the nimble yet rapid drum patterns are all designed to stick to the sides of your brain for days to come. Still, there is a dark celebratory nature bubbling underneath it all. Lyrically, the band thrashes with violent imagery as they wrestle with their past, unleashing every bottled-up emotion onto this track. The animated vocal performance emphasizes these lyrics while also softening the blow of lines like “I wanna grab you by the hair, drag you in the mud.” “Fuck Everything Up” is an explosive piece of rock that highlights the intricacies that set GUNMOLL apart from their peers.
