Ten years ago today (1/8/26), David Bowie released his final studio album Blackstar. Released on Bowie’s 69th birthday—it arrived just two days before his death, instantly transforming from a bold late-career experiment into a deeply moving farewell. Musically, Blackstar is restless and adventurous, pulling Bowie away from conventional rock structures and toward avant-jazz, electronic textures, and unsettling atmospheres. Working with producer Tony Visconti and a group of New York jazz musicians led by saxophonist Donny McCaslin, Blackstar still carries the weight of Bowie’s enduring legacy.
