Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country Lifts Off with Jimi Hendrix and J.J. Cale Covers At Portland, OR’s Revolution Hall (PHOTOS/RECAP)

Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country stopped by Portland, Oregon’s Revolution Hall on Friday, February 6th as part of their Horizons Winter Tour, which kicked off in late January and runs through early April.

The band was firing on all cylinders, feeding off the audience and using their songs to explore and improvise. There was a big “Fire On The Mountain” jam at the end of the first set. They came out swinging for the second set with an expansive “Eleven Eleven” and didn’t let up. One highlight was when keyboardist Nathan “Sugar Legg” Aronowitz picked up his guitar and led the band in a rocking version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire.”

As virtuosic as Donato is on the Telecaster, enough can’t be said about the solidity of the entire band. Drummer Will Clark and bassist Will McGee laid down a rock-solid foundation throughout the night, allowing Donato and Aronowitz to explore to their heart’s content. The interplay between those two was a highlight of the night, with the rhythm section happy to drive the conversation. The audience and band were in it to win it, and by the time the band came out and encored with J.J. Cale’s “Ride Me High,” Revolution Hall was rocking.

Glide was on hand to capture some photos of the evening.
