Genesis Owusu Announces Third Studio Album ‘Redstar Wu & The Worldwide Scourge’

Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu has announced his explosive third studio album REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, arriving May 15 via OURNESS. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s most inventive contemporary voices, Owusu previews the record with recent singles including the incendiary “PIRATE RADIO,” the Brit rock-leaning “DEATH CULT ZOMBIE,” and the anthemic “STAMPEDE,” the latter accompanied by a striking video filmed during his first return to Ghana since childhood. In support of the release, Owusu will take his dynamic live show across Australia, the UK, and Europe, with additional dates to be announced.

Across the album, Owusu channels the volatility of the present moment into a deeply personal and outward-looking body of work. It is at once experimental and cohesive, desolate and euphoric, unflinching yet liberating—an album defined by tension and duality. Blending Neo-soul with alt-pop, synth punk with deep funk, and touches of Brit rock, Owusu builds a richly textured soundscape that mirrors the complexity of the world he’s interrogating. With sharp lyricism and a clear sense of purpose, the record confronts an era marked by division while calling for empathy and collective understanding.

“I started writing this album because I was seeing so much of the world and watching what was happening,” Owusu explains. “I felt like I had something important to say. I was writing this almost out of necessity—because there were so many people not saying what needed to be said. I feel like I’m a student of Nina Simone, and she said, ‘the purpose of an artist is to reflect the times they live in.’”
