For the Phoenix, Arizona/New York City band, Ones Loved, making music is truly a family affair. With all the best elements of indie/alt/pop jangled and tangled up, the band is ready to make luscious waves in a hungry musical world. There is a beautifully balanced sincerity in Ones Loved that comes from the deep connection that can only be found in friendship, love, and familiarity.
In 2023, Jim Andreas (Trunk Federation/No Volcano) started writing songs with his partner and frequent musical collaborator, Jenny Tamura, and her brother, Jeremy Randall (who was also in No Volcano). Then Andreas brought in his Trunk Federation bandmate, Bob Smith, to contribute songs, bass tracks, and help produce the recordings the trio, and now quartet, were working on.
The quintet, which features a mix of old and new friends, siblings, former bandmates, and current lovers, celebrates the release of their first album, Oleander, in October of 2025.
The Jay Huffman-assisted “Undone” is a highlight from Oleander, and a slow-burning, beautiful introduction to this band’s sonic universe. Ones Loved is the type of band that specializes in world-building, creating tiny, secret sonic hideouts for listeners to escape to. On “Undone,” the band employs vague yet palpable poetry that details what seems like an emotional unraveling, as if we’re watching someone fall apart from afar with no way to help. The complexity of this story is elevated once you surrender yourself to the whirling psychedelic stirred up by the instrumentation. With swelling brass, hypnotic percussion, and subtly searing melodies, “Undone” captivates with its simplicity and immerses with its intricacies. Ones Loved is fresh off the release of their stellar debut album, and “Undone” properly invites the world to join this band in whatever direction their fearlessness points them.
