15 Years Ago Today – Wilco Announce The Start Of Their Own Record Label -dBpm Records (Watch “Art of Almost” Live)

15 years ago today—January 26, 2011Wilco announced the launch of their own record label, dBpm Records.

In a press release, the band said the imprint would release “all future Wilco recordings and more,” with distribution handled by ANTI-. Frontman Jeff Tweedy summed it up perfectly: “This is an idea we’ve discussed for years. We really like doing things ourselves, so having our own label feels pretty natural to me. And working with Anti— a label that grew out of a punk rock guy selling his own records— feels like a perfect fit.”

The first release on dBpm was The Whole Love, which landed on September 27, 2011. Do yourself a favor and revisit the wildly underrated “Art of Almost,” especially that blistering 2011 performance on Late Show with David Letterman—a reminder of just how fearless this era of Wilco really was.
