Twenty years ago today (2/10/06), Neil Young’s concert film Heart of Gold premiered in New York. Directed by Jonathan Demme, the film captures Young performing with Hank Williams’ old guitar, backed by a stellar band that included Emmylou Harris, Spooner Oldham, the late steel guitarist Ben Keith, and Young’s late ex-wife Pegi Young.

Shot over two nights—August 18 and 19, 2005—at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, the film documents Young debuting songs from Prairie Wind before closing with an encore of classics. One of the standout moments is Young giving a playful shout-out to “Chris Rock” during the underrated track “No Wonder.”
