50 years ago today (2/23/76), AC/DC filmed the iconic video for “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” for Australia’s legendary music TV program Countdown. Shot on the back of a flatbed truck rolling down Swanston Street, the clip captured the band’s then-current lineup alongside members of the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band, pipes blazing in the middle of Melbourne.
In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Rights Association marked its 75th anniversary by unveiling its list of the Best Australian Songs of All Time, as voted on by a 100-member industry panel. “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n’ Roll)” landed at a mighty No. 9—cementing its place as one of the great anthems in Australian music history
